The checklists, glossary and cost guide below are designed to be referenced at every step — bookmark this page and come back before each clinic call.

  1. 1

What is your live-birth rate per cycle for my age group, not just clinical pregnancy?

Clinical pregnancy ≠ baby. Live-birth rate is the only number that matters; SART/ESHRE recommend it as the headline metric.

  2. 2

How many fresh and frozen embryo transfers did you perform last year?

Volume is correlated with outcomes. Below 100 cycles/year is a small program; below 50 is a red flag for IVF.

  3. 3

What is the all-in cost — meds, anaesthesia, embryology, freezing, storage, FET?

Indian quotes often exclude medication (₹80K – ₹1.5L), ICSI add-on, and FET (₹40K – ₹80K). Ask for a written, itemised estimate.

  4. 4

Who will perform my retrieval and transfer — the same doctor or whoever is on duty?

In chains and large hospitals, the consultant you meet may not be the one who does your procedure.

  5. 5

Will I get the same embryologist throughout, and what is their training?

Embryology is the single biggest determinant of IVF success — more than the doctor.

  6. 6

What are your blastocyst conversion and freeze-thaw survival rates?

These lab metrics expose the quality of the embryology team. Healthy clinics: blastocyst rate ≥50%, thaw survival ≥95%.

  7. 7

Do you offer a refund or shared-risk programme, and what are the exclusion criteria?

Many programmes exclude women over 37 or with low AMH — exactly the patients who most need protection.

  8. 8

What is your single-embryo transfer rate, and will you push me to transfer two?

Twin pregnancies double the risk of preterm birth. ASRM recommends elective single-embryo transfer (eSET) for most patients under 38.

  9. 9

How quickly can I reach my doctor between visits, and via what channel?

Cycles move fast. Clinics that route everything through reception lose 24–48 hours on time-sensitive decisions.

  10. 10

Can I see your ICMR registration and ART Bank licence?

Required under the ART Act 2021. A clinic that hesitates is a clinic to walk away from.
